Renting a Room

I am thinking about renting a room in our home to help our family income. My hubby and children are OK with it, but I have reservations about who will actually rent the room.

How can we tell if someone is suitable to bring into our home and 'share our space'. Also, how can we ensure that we get paid on time?

The room we have to rent is somewhat separate from the rest of our home, but our family will still have to interact with them to some extent.
