I have worked from home for ten years, and could not imagine working regular hours from an office again. All I need is a laptop, Broadband and mobile phone. I need to go into the office sometimes but most things can be dealt with via email or conference calls. I can even follow online webinars to save travelling to seminars.
I have the best of both worlds - a city-type job and a peaceful homelife in the country. Working from home allows me to be flexible with my work hours - I can go for a long walk with my dog in the morning and work in the evening (I prefer it to watching Eastenders); or take Wednesday off and work on Saturday instead.
Another upside is all the tax-deductable bills and purchases which help to keep the tax bill down.
As well as saving money, it's a 'greener' way of working as there is no unneccessary traveling or daily commute and you soon find that you don't need to print and photocopy everything.
