Unusual Holiday Breaks

Look for unusual holiday breaks instead of the usual package holiday.
Why not make a change and try something different?

Not only will it probably be a lot cheaper than flying off abroad, but you will also learn something about your chosen subject.

It could be an unusual holiday break, it could even be a life changing or career changing event.

The site covers the UK with all types of course from evening to Postgraduate bursaries.

There are also courses in Australia, Indian study, Chinese study, etc. etc. etc.

Technically the world is your oyster. Definitely a source for unusual holiday breaks.

Below are a number of these different types of courses for you to take a look at:

WEEKEND/EVENING BREAKS

The following weekend/evening breaks, etc. have been researched for your selection.

Pigs and Pig Keeping - Pigs and Pig Keeping

Tony York is again running courses and taking bookings for the coming year. Learn more in a day than many Rare Breed pig keepers learn in a lifetime..... and do it with a smile on your face. Pigs are really loveable characters. They are very clean animals with a pleasant ‘pig’ smell.

Keeping Chickens - Kitchen Garden Hens

Why not spend a day at the Kitchen Garden, near Bury St. Edmunds and learn all there is to know about keep hens for an unusal holiday break. Orpingtons are a very beautiful bird, and a particular favourite of mine are Black Rock hens. Enjoy a home grown lunch, a glass of wine and learn how to garden despite your hens.

Bee Keeping - Bees and Bee Keeping

Suddenly people have come to realise how important bees are to the rural economy and the production of food. On this site you can discover more about bee-keeping and find a suitable bee-keeping course in your area. These are staged in various parts of the country and you will learn about honey and bumble bees. On this site you can subscribe to the Beecraft Journal or select some enticing gifts. This will definitely rank amongst unusual holiday breaks with a difference.

There are three levels of instruction – beginner, intermediate and advanced.

Arts and Crafts - Arts and Crafts

Assington Mill is an Arts and Craft Centre and offers courses in upholstery, baskets for free, which entails gathering a range of plants in the wild and then transforming these in to simple baskets. Singing is another course, plus pig-keeping, traditional sign-writing, furniture conservation – in fact almost any craft you can think of. Take a look and make your own choice.

The Empire Farm is a 100 acre organic farm on the edge of the Blackmore Vale, just south of Wincanton in Somerset, where organic geese, ducks, chickens, turkeys, and pigs - mostly traditional and rare - breeds are raised. There are a variety of courses available to people interested in running a small holding. Plus a pork butchery and sausage making day. It is best to visit the site as there is so much on offer and choose one of their unusual holiday breaks for yourself.

Water Divining - British Dowsers

Dowsing has often featured in TV detective series – Midsomer Murders springs to mind. If you have ever fancied trying your hand at water divining this is the site for you.

Cheese Making, rearing poultry, etc. etc. Plumpton College, East Sussex.

This college runs both part and full time courses of an agricultural nature including rearing poultry for the table, practical bee-keeping, pork butchery and cheesemaking.

Cycling, Cyclists, Holidays, Touring - Cyclists and Cycling

This site needs no introductory explanation. It is just all about cyclists and cycling, giving you all the information, or where to find it, that you could possibly want. So why not stretch your muscles, get fit and see what the world has to offer. Maybe the challenge of a long distance ride that you could cover in a week, or maybe something longer would appeal?

Perhaps one of the best sources for courses (excuse the pun) is the UK's largest course finder www.hot courses.com
