Because of a new interest in food that is not mass produced but has a definite degree of individuality, more and more people are now buying their food from these ‘specialist’ suppliers.
People are showing an increasing quest for knowledge as to where their food comes from and how it is produced.
This is giving small, individual producers an opportunity to sell direct to the market, and frequently is a life-line between making a profit and surviving as opposed to failure and sinking into oblivion.
As on our page Street Markets, only Farmer's Markets that have been visited or recommended are included.
DISS, SUFFOLK/NORFOLK BORDER
When this market was visited at the end of Summer, 2009, there was a low turn-out of stalls. Another visit is planned. The market operates on alternate weeks on a Saturday.
Another visit has been made and despite the rain there was a very good turn out of 13 stalls in the Market Place. These ranged from free range eggs, wines, cakes and pies, home made sausages, preserves, vegetable plants also a wide selection of garden herbaceous plants, plus many other stalls. One stall even had knitted woollen hats on sale - very appropriate considering the cold, rainy day. Worth a visit and supporting.

FRAMLINGHAM FARMER'S MARKET, SUFFOLK
It was a cold, wet Saturday morning in January, but such is the dedication of these stall holders that the turn-out was good. Seasonly organic vegetables, a fishmonger, free range eggs, freshly baked bread, pulses and preserves, locally produced meat - pork, lamb, beef and sausages to name but a few. A return visit will definitely be made in the Spring. This market can be found at Market Hill from around 8.30 a.m. every Saturday.
HARLESTON COUNTRY MARKET
Not a Farmer's Market as such, but worthy of inclousion here. A small grouping of stall holders selling home produce such as free range eggs, beautiful cakes, jams and marmalades, vegetables and hand crafted items.
Held in the Church Hall in Old Market Place from 9.30 - 12.00 every Wednesday. This is the same day as the Street Market In Harleston, so the two tie nicely in together.
LOUGHTON, ESSEX.

WYKEN VINEYARD FARMER'S MARKET, STANTON, SUFFOLK
This market is obviously well established. It is signposted along the A.143 and is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. This publicity pays because despite visiting the day after heavy snowfalls in East Anglia, there was a very good turnout of both stall-holders and prospective customers. From preserves, fish, beef, local lamb, pot plants, wines, cakes, bread and hot soups to cereals etc. Most of the stalls had a good eye on the P.R. side of their business and were out to encourage buyers. The fruit and veg stall with a selection to rival any large store, was very adept at publicity. Long may they all continue to flourish. In addition to the stall holders there is a small coffee shop. Definitely well worth a visit - a second visit and more.
