The need to find cheap electricity becomes even more urgent as prices continue to rise.
With the world demand for energy constantly rising it seems likely that prices for utilities will continue to rise.
The only way to survive these price hikes is to become an expert and practice economy and so save money.
Here you will need to seek out the cheapest utilities deal, compare prices and your savings should be enormous.
1. There are now so many price comparison sites available on the Internet that you can quickly source the best possible tariff for cheap electricity supplies, and this could save money – in fact an awful lot of it! The rates they can offer are amazing.
2. Don't leave any electronic equipment - computers, TVs. radios, HiFi's. DVDs - with a standby function switched on when not in use. These small lights will burn a fantastic amount of electricity and are also a fire hazard should the equipment become overheated.
3. This tip comes under the heading of - cheating - because this is not one of the utilities in the correct sense of the word. If you can install or already have a wood burning stove you can let such ideas as prices comparison etc. pass you by.
When you are on your next country walk take a sturdy carrier bag with you and collect small pieces of wood to use as kindling to get the stove started.
It may need to be left to dry out before using. Enjoy your walk and think of the money you are saving! Cheap does not come much better than this!

6. Try turning the central heating thermostat down by just one degree. This should make a difference to the amount of fuel you burn. Think cheap electricity!
Don’t tell anyone you have done this and the chances are they will not notice, but your savings will be high.
If they do notice, don’t tell them what you have done, just say the weather is colder and tell them to put on an extra sweater or move around more by doing batch cooking, etc. Think of the budget. Keep quiet – it’s all in the mind. Think utilities - think of the need to save money, think cheap electricity.
7. Make sure your central heating boiler is serviced each year to make sure it is running efficiently. Also, it is possible in this yearly service to detect future faults. Accidents waiting to happen!
8. Request an actual meter reading instead of accepting an estimated bill. If there are major changes in the way you use electricity in your home, such as adding or losing residents, installing a new, more efficient dishwasher or washing machine and changes to the home itself i.e., adding more insulation in the loft or installing double glazing, these are all likely to make a change in your final meter reading. Use it to your advantage and make sure you get cheap electricity..
9. If you have an Economy 7 meter installed, use this to the utmost by setting slow cookers, immersions heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, eletric tooth brushes etc. on charge during this cheaper electricity period.
10. If you can save 1p. per hour on your electricity usage you will save a massive £87.60 per annum. It can be done!
11. Most electricity supply companies have free booklet with tips on saving electricity in the home. Some also do a free home analysis to see where you can save even more engergy. It is worth a quick phone call to check.
12. With the cost of Solar Panels now falling is it time to investigate installing them to reduce the outlay on electricity and/or heating the water required in your family? At present rates it will take about 20 years for the average family to recoup the cost of the capital outlay on installation.
